This is the story of Dr. Margaretha Hofmeyr,  a Cape Town veterinarian, and her efforts to save the geometric tortoise in the country with the largest number of tortoise species in the world.  But the geometric tortoise, known for its unique shell, has struggled with the challenges of man’s progress, and even more so from wildfires in an area plagued by  drought.
