In the final shot of his last film, The Sacrifice , Andrei Tarkovsky dedicated the film to his son Andryusha, whom he had not seen for five years due to the Soviet authorities' prohibition against the young man reuniting with his father in exile. After Andrei's death, the young Andryusha reciprocates that dedication with this "letter" to his father, giving voice to colleagues and friends who admired his work.
