Threshold is a performance-video work in which Freya Björg Olafson physically and kinetically responds to the repetitive movements and sounds of László Moholy-Nagy's Light Prop for an Electric Stage. Recorded in a small storage room at the Bauhaus-Archiv in Berlin, Olafson allows the machine's movement and sound to influence her improvisation while simultaneously testing whether her body can initiate movement and control the machine. The work explores the reciprocal relationship between body, machine, movement, perception, and technology, extending Moholy-Nagy's ideas about expanded cinema and his concept of the "Poly-Cinema" into contemporary digital/video practice.
