Greaves was interested in J. L. Moreno’s technique of psychodrama, which involves patients dramatising traumatic experiences in order to help them confront and overcome them. In the film In the Company of Men, a trained psychodramatist successfully works with groups of black workers and their white managers in a factory in the American Deep South. In The Deep North, the psychodrama method is used to explore racism in Greaves’ hometown of New York City.
