Wolves are returning to the Swiss Alps, and Beat Oswald is determined to find them. To do this, he settles on the Tamina Valley, a remote mountain valley, and more specifically, the small town of Vättis. Yet on the traces of the wolf, it is mostly humans he comes across. And more and more the journey unfolds into a multilayered quest, full of wonder, surprises and existential questions: Are we still capable of dealing with the unexpected? And what are we talking about when we nostalgically allude to untouched nature?
In this cinematic adventure - which moves freely between genres such as the thriller, observational films, essayfilm and nature documentaries - the movie unravels the debate surrounding the reintroduction of wolves, probing the Anthropocene more broadly. Rewarding the viewers with delightful formal surprises, the movie bears witness to the smallness of our civilisation in the face of Nature, asking the following question: Will there ever be what used to be?
