Surfing Einstein" is an artistic documentary film. It deals with a group of physicists at the University of Rome, who in 2016 proved the phenomenon of gravitational waves predicted by Albert Einstein. However, the film does not focus on the scientific facts, but on the human aspects of the research, frustrations and moments of happiness, as well as the togetherness of the group. The great feature here is that the scientists themselves - an international and very diverse group of people - describe their everyday lives and thoughts not in interview form, but as a dance. The Physics Department of the Sapienza University in Rome and the Virgo Research Center near Pisa serve as the filming location and backdrop. The director and choreographer Meritxell Campos Olivé worked out very personal forms of movement with all the protagonists, who have never expressed themselves in such a way through dance in their lives before, creating a close relationship with every one of them. The result is a film whose images and narrative form transcend all frames and categories. In "Surfing Einstein", community, intuition, continuous learning, imagination and perseverance are shown as values that can be set against todays advancing egoism and hyper-individuality.
