Rap and Reindeer follows the life of 18-year-old Sámi rapper Mihkku Laiti. Only a while ago Mihkku was sure he would follow his father’s footsteps in reindeer husbandry. Then he became interested in rap music. He started working on rhymes in his native language, Northern Sámi. Mihkku was invited to the Finland’s Got Talent competition and made his way into the finals.
Mihkku is a charismatic and strong-willed young Sámi man, who masters the demanding and hard duties of reindeer herding, but who also wants to become a famous rap artist. This may mean a conflict between the Sámi community’s expectations on the young and his own desires and ambitions.
The future makes Mikkhu wonder: to follow his father’s footsteps or to reach for his dreams.
