Pioneer species are the first to grow on damaged or barren land, creating conditions for others to follow. Pioneer Species follows artists, gardeners, and residents who, like these organisms, engage in acts of regeneration—composting, planting, and cultivating relations—in urban and peri-urban France. Through quiet, persistent gestures, they too prepare the ground  for the entangled ways of inhabiting the world to come.
