The film describes eleven case histories who have received training in their voice over five years. The early sequences are of city streets in Glasgow and day to day footage of the power of speech; these are the patients who have had their larynx removed going about their everyday lives. How the voice is created is then explained diagrammatically. The patients attend the narrator's club and demonstrate their ability. Mr Duffy talks about how Mr McAllister (?) taught him the method of sound production to create normal speech (these sequences appear to be dramatised).
