Aerial archaeology looks at the past from above and allows us to discover cultural heritage hidden underground that no longer exists in material form. However, there are imprints in the landscape, where a different color of the soil or vegetation reveals where old objects stood, where historical events took place. The top department of the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, led by Prof. Martin Gojda, has been creating an archive of aerial images of the surface of our country for over thirty years. This is a world-unique project that offers us new insights into our history.
