Director Julien Faraut is not a traditional sports documentary filmmaker. He uses archival 16mm footage from the 1984 French Open as a starting point for an original reflection on tennis, the human body and film itself. John McEnroe, then the best tennis player in the world, is captured in detail here – we see his outbursts of anger, precise movements and moments of perfection. Faraut shows that tennis and film are in dialogue with each other: they work similarly with time, drama and spectacle. A funny and visually impressive film about a man at the limit of his senses.
