Eternal Garden is a love letter to Jamaica’s farmers as they work to supply food to the local community six days a week. Jamaica is one of the blessed lands in the Caribbean whose tropical climate supports the healthy growth of a wide variety of fresh produce year-round. Labour jobs are the most common form of employment on the island, and many residents take up fishing, farming, or construction. The farmers and the fishers take delicate care of their residents by supplying the top selection of meat and produce. Residents also practice agriculture by planting trees or seeds on their property so that they can feed themselves and their neighbours. Eternal Garden shares the intimate actions Jamaican people make by taking care of each other with food.

The project follows farmers, my family, my partner’s family, and my dear friends as we collectively work together to ensure our loved ones and those in need are fed. Farmers set up booths at local markets, neighbours bring each other food baskets, family members cook for relatives, and friends gift produce to friends and strangers.

Eternal Garden follows the journey of produce from germination to harvest, starting with farmers (both professional farmers and home-based gardens) and moving on to consumers; this is an agricultural, environmental, and cultural study that demonstrates the love Jamaican people have for each other.
