“Dance so they don’t hit you so hard” and its alternate phrasing “Dance so they don’t hit you harder” is a bodily and performative film work that merges performance, poetry, butoh dance, sound, and film to reflect on blows, violence, and dance. Created for the exhibition Round of Shadow at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Querétaro (MACQ), the piece presents a metamorphic vision in which movement and perception are transfigured into an artistic plane. The work invites contemplation on the relationship between bodily experience, artistic expression, and the impact of violence.
