“Biochar Revolution: Empowering Communities for a Sustainable Future” is a collaboration between artist Jae-Eun Suh and scientist Lifeng Dong.

In this compelling film, witness how the innovative transformation of biomass waste into biochar is reshaping our approach to urgent environmental and socio-economic challenges globally. As technology and population growth contribute to an uptick in waste production, the film illustrates visually and conceptually  how biochar presents a sustainable solution that sequesters carbon in the soil, enhances agricultural productivity, purifies water, and stores electrical energy.

Though its potential is vast, biochar remains underutilized and not widely understood. This film seeks to fill this knowledge gap by demonstrating the creation of biochar using an affordable, portable gasifier. With vivid scanning electron microscopy imagery and detailed exploration of the construction and testing of supercapacitors—an electrical energy storage device—the film encourages viewers to embrace biochar technology.

By showcasing biochar's wide-ranging benefits and its positive impact on local communities and economies, the film aims to inspire individuals, policymakers, and organizations around the world to adopt biochar technology, paving the way toward a more sustainable and prosperous future for all.
