"Begun in 1983 and completed in 1992, Between the Frames offers a glimpse into contemporary history that is already past, a portrait of personalities and opinions shaping what and how art reaches a public forum. Initiated in response to the radical shift of values apparent in the 1980s, when 'product' and 'performance' were measurable and desirable, and [when] painting styles and supply-and-demand forces emerged as the main topics of discussion in contemporary art, Muntadas's six-hour compilation interviews with 'players' from several countries was completed just as the bottom had fallen out of the buy and sell game. Issues other than prestige and financial gain were again in effect."
