Jean-Luc, an actor in his eighties, is about to play Don Quixote in a prestigious theater in the city. It's the major role he's been waiting for to bid farewell to the stage. But his health problems are making rehearsals difficult. The production decides to hire an understudy to prepare for any potential problems. Jean-Luc will gradually descend into an obsessive delusion, convinced that his understudy will take his place until he disappears completely.
