In the 1980s, 156 Rivington was an abandoned building on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. A group of renegade artists occupied the space and mounted an installation called “The Real Estate Show.” Though shut down by the city after a day, the action sparked a larger movement that led to the formation of the community arts collective ABC No Rio. The film traces the politics of space, gentrification, community activism, and the role of art in reclaiming urban places, offering voices from both the artists and neighborhood residents
