sacred rituals symbolic
About

Felipe Esparza’s work creates dynamic links and tensions between cinema, visual arts and video creation. In his projects, a strong interest in social content coexists with an exploration of themes such as nature, non-verbal communication, the sacred, its symbolic derivations and the relationship between image and time, image and history and image and truth. He approaches the complex representation of these themes by developing visual narratives in which the contemporary visual imagination cohabits with archives and with local and universal cultural codes, to the point of creating pieces of metalanguage. Currently his work is focused on rituals. His videos and video installations have been seen in national art centers such as: MALI, Luis Miro Quesada, Lugar de la Memoria, Ministerio de Cultura (Lima) and international like : A la Gaite Lyrique (Paris), Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin), Triennial Guangzhou Image (China), Shangyuang Museum of Contemporary Art (Beijing), Videobrasil Festival (Sao Paulo), Lisbon Municipal Chamber (Portugal), Los Angeles Film Forum, Art Production Center HANGAR (Madrid), Buenos Aires Video Art Festival, Berlinale Talent Campus, Rotterdam International Film Festival, Uppsala International Short Film Festival, Kyiv International Film Festival “Molodist”, Curtocircuíto International Film Festival, and others. He is currently director of the audiovisual and design studio Milk and selected artist at Le Fresnoy - Studio national des arts contemporains, France.
