About
Asia Khmelova is a Ukrainian filmmaker, currently based in New York. She works in both documentary and narrative forms.
A lot of her work is about nature, animals and science.
She directed a documentary “Depth” about vertical caves and a character study “Know-How” about a VR developer in Czech Republic. Her other short documentary is “The Life of Tonya” about a girl who lives and works at a wild animals shelter. The movie touches the topics of environment and nature.
In the spring of 2021, Asia finished her MFA degree at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, as a writer-director. Her feature screenplay “Cosmonaut” is Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Writing Award recipient. It is about two electronics technicians, who used to work at a rocket factory, where nowadays they make umbrellas.
Currently, Asia works on the development of an art project about socioenvironmental and environmental impacts of the war.
