The piece frames scent as a bridge between past and present. While photographs freeze a single moment, smell refuses to stay fixed; it lingers, heightening and reanimating memory.
I filmed this short in a single day, using myself and my two cats as subjects interacting with scent and the memories it carries. To tie the visuals together, I wrote a short poem describing a partner coming home and her awareness of where her lover has been, traced through the scents lingering in the bedroom.
I chose to use an AI-generated voice to deliver the poem. This was an attempt to juxtapose intimate, honest words with a cold, robotic, seemingly soulless system.
