Since becoming a vampire, IFTIN lives life in solitude, yet still goes through the motions of being ‘human’. By day, Iftin rests in her apartment, and tends to air sensors by night as part of her night-job as an atmospheric chemist. In order to feed, Iftin meets with GHULAM, a halal butcher, who routinely offers her animal blood. Ghulam pleads with Iftin to never kill another person, as her innocence is what keeps her from being a ‘monster’.

One night, Iftin encounters a rambling clown named QAMAR on her way to Ghulam’s shop. She’s entranced by Qamar’s monologue, as they wax poetics to the full moon. Qamar invites Iftin to see a ‘performance’ later that same night. Hesitant, Iftin agrees and finds herself at the Night Circus, full of an eclectic group of performers -- including the vampire SAFIYA. Drawn together by kismet, Safiya tells Iftin of her past life as a human, before she embraced the chaos of ‘the carnival’. Iftin -- still tied to "logic" -- can't understand how the night circus came to be nor how to live a life that’s ‘free’ from earthly constraints.

Torn, Iftin asks how she can leave the world she’s still tethered to. Instead of Safiya, the AIR responds and asks Iftin to guard its being forevermore, just like the sensors she studies. Realizing that her eternal life is not in vain, Iftin returns to her apartment -- only to find her LANDLORD and his SON have broken into her apartment. and kills the two in a rage. Now a ‘monster’, Iftin runs to Ghulam, who confesses his love. Knowing they can never be together, Iftin tells Ghulam to look for her every full moon before sacrificing herself to the Air.

A month later, Ghulam visits Iftin’s old lab. There, the air sensors begin to glow.
