‘Wateriness 1’ is part of a series of short experimental films made at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, UK. They combine Lidar scanning footage with video. Lidar technologies are typically used to scan rock formations or built environmemts, and are not designed to scan water. I wanted to push the technology to its limits and explore whether it could capture ‘wateriness’. In this film, my body movements as I walk with the scanner along a lake suggest the movement of water. This is combined with a video of the surface of the lake where a reflection of the camera can be seen.
