This diptych installation confronts two opposing yet complementary perceptions of a single place: the sea.Through two videos projected side by side, the same scene is presented, divided into contrasting interpretations, each carried by a distinct poem.
These images engage in a dialogue, creating an interaction between opposing perceptions and reinforcing the idea of a shared space seen from different angles. They invite reflection on the diversity of human experiences connected to this element, sometimes a source of comfort and calm, sometimes a stage for violence and loss.
The video on the left explores this expanse as a haven of tranquility and serenity, where the ripples of the water gently caress the shore. This fluid movement creates a sensation of peace, a refuge where the soul rests and finds solace. The accompanying poetic text presents it as a shelter of quietude, a meditative space where the mind can free itself from the turbulence of everyday life. In this vision, it becomes a sanctuary where one can lose themselves in the infinity of the horizon to regain inner calm. The waves become a symbol of time passing slowly, erasing thoughts and offering a moment of communion with the invisible.
The one on the right shows exactly the same setting as the left but is carried by a different reading, suggested by a poem that transforms it into a darker, more tumultuous sea, an invisible border bearing forgotten stories and silent sufferings. The currents then become symbols of separation and rupture, where hope and farewell mingle in an incessant flow. Here, dreams are swept away to unknown shores, where lives drown in indifference. Bodies and stories disappear, witnesses to a memory erased by the waves.
Thus, although it is the same scene, the diptych reveals two facets of this landscape. It becomes a mirror of our human contradictions. It is not merely a geographical territory but one of emotions, a meeting point where collective memory and individual experience intersect and intertwine.
