As a landscape of distorted colors and shapes unfolds, a voice sings of today. A ghost floating on the water slowly bleeds into the sunlight.
"Today" is Young_an's music. The film uses this music as its background. The sound was recorded two years ago during Young_an's performance "활란이를 위하여(For Hwalan)" two years ago. Young-an sings, "Today the filthiest of us all, Lies in the holiest place of all." "Today nobody transcend nobody…." Young_a said that while this is a song that "hopes," if asked whether it is a "hopeful" song, that would be an entirely different story. In that "hoping" song, I saw today's sun. I saw rays of light pouring down as if to burn everything. I rendered it through digital means and transferred it into a single photograph. The location featured in the film is an old landscape photograph I stumbled upon by chance on Wikimedia. I stared intently at that photograph, not knowing where it was taken or having ever been there myself. I, who have never lived through today, saw a phantom rising like a ghost from the unfamiliar place in that photograph. It looked like a heat haze, tearing and splitting apart from a fixed frontal perspective, its form constantly shifting. I manifested that ghost from my subconscious onto the river in the photograph. Within a song resembling a prayer of Young_An, the ghost and I hope to weave ourselves tightly into the illusion of "today" and pull the present toward us.
