Poetry and movement, two sources of distinct rhythm, are cohesive forces in Time is a Dancer. The short film explores time, that constant heartbeat of the universe which creates both life and chaos. While it is hard to capture such an ephemeral topic in words, Paul Sutter’s original poetry makes a beautiful pass at it. Inspired by the intersection of what we know and what we feel, Sutter’s poetry encompasses the scientific and the philosophical aspects of time, melding them together to create something unique.

Drawing from an understanding of a partnership that goes beyond a single project, Sutter’s poetry is brought to life by the dancers of SYREN Modern Dance, choreographed by Artistic Director of the company, Kate Sutter. Captured on film by Nel Shelby Productions, Time is a Dancer opens in the lobby of a theatre, and traverses through the space, moving between the stage and the seats—encapsulating the full experience of a dancer. The company’s movements and interactions, with each other and the space itself, invite the audience to listen and resonate with the spoken word poetry, and to reflect on the past, present, and anticipated future that the arrow of time will carry us to.

The film was produced and financed by Dark 'n' Light, a digital magazine and space (www.darknlight.com), owned by Krit Consulting SARL, based in Switzerland.
