DANI (18) lives on the fragile edge of lower-middle class America. In many ways, her life is like that of her peers: she works a fast-food job, debates whether to open letters from her dad who’s in prison, and takes care of her brother while her mom sleeps between shifts. What sets her apart is a one-way ticket out: an academic scholarship to a state school, in another town, far away. But her escape is precarious, and—in a single afternoon—it shatters.
