An independent film screener leaks from a talent agency. Wary of sending out digital links, an independent filmmaker presents her latest film to a talent agency in their private screening room. When it inevitably leaks, a frantic cover-up begins, until the district attorney decides to prosecute the agency as a white-collar crime syndicate. As the office builds its case, everyone involved becomes a witness… or a potential defendant. Longtime collaborators Jim Cummings and PJ McCabe return to the Sundance Film Festival with a biting satire of legacy corporate entertainment, made all the more intriguing by the fact that this is an entirely independently produced series. Their unique blend of dark humor and emotional vulnerability yields a tone that is both fresh and unapologetically human. Set within an industry built entirely on reputation and avarice, each episode squarely targets societal hierarchies and outdated power dynamics. Buoyed by a stellar cast, The Screener tells the story of an indie filmmaker who sets out to reclaim her power from a corporate entity that supposedly has her best interests in mind.
