An eponymous engraving by Josef Váchal and a text by writer Karel Klostermann were an inspiration to lament the endangered integrity of the Bohemian Forest (Šumava), suffering from civilization more than ever before. Both authors, living one generation apart (Váchal was born at the end of 19th century, while Klostermann was experiencing the highest peak of his work), were doing one of the first ,ecological alerts’, warning about Šumava’s natural purity. The visual evocation of an old film suggests the timeless nature of environmental problems that have plagued the wild and lovely Bohemian Forest for a long time.
