The film uncovers a tangled history of messenger RNA technology used in the recent Covid-19 vaccines. In a remarkable turn of events, the film features visionary scientists who stayed at the roots of this technology working against all the odds, with KATALIN KARIKÓ and DREW WEISSMAN winning a Nobel Prize in medicine 2023, right before the film release.
Unaware of the upcoming pandemic 2020, these visionaries were initially looking for the best gene therapy methods to fight cancer, HIV and other deadly diseases. Now with the proved efficiency of this mRNA method, they work tirelessly to reveal a new generation of revolutionary cures.
Co-produced with RTS Swiss national television, the film premiered on December 6, 2023, and achieved record viewership, far surpassing standard documentary audiences. Broadcasted on RTS and RSI channels in French and Italian (original version in English), the film went global over TV5 Monde channels. Beyond broadcasting, THE MESSENGER is driving an impact campaign, with recent educational screenings at Geneva University, Johns Hopkins and conferences, to inspire discussions on mRNA revolutionary technology’s potential to treat cancer and other diseases.
