In post-war London, the Lord family’s corner shop and home on the South Bank stand in the way of the Festival of Britain’s development. Patriarch Henry Lord (Stanley Holloway) and wife Lillian (Kathleen Harrison) defiantly refuse compensation, refusing to budge. Joined by their eccentric relatives, they barricade themselves in against police and civil servants, turning into an overnight cause célèbre before the government relents.
