A neuroscientist embarks on a quest to record from every single cell of the brain, driven by a desire to unravel the mystery of consciousness. Inspired by Borges’ tale of impossible maps and Montaigne’s essay “It is Folly to Measure Truth and Error by Our Own Capacity,” the film blends fiction and documentary. With reflective interviews with scientists and philosophers in Paris, it probes the limits of science’s ability to capture absolute truth. The Cartography of the Mind is a meditative exploration of human ambition, the beauty of uncertainty, and the inherent limitations of our attempts to map the complexity of life.
