If people were blood cells they would use the city's arteries as transportation. This documentary style video work is a visual letter of artistic acknowledgement to the metropolitan arterial network: the Mumbai Local Trains. RAKTMARG is a Hindi phrase that literally translates to the word ‘bloodstream’ or ‘blood path.’ This short film traverses the landscape of the local train; imagined to be the arteries and veins in the body of the city of Mumbai, India. The people travelling in it are like blood cells, in this map of the city’s body. Looked at through biological terminology, this film visualises ordinary physical surfaces as part of biological systems, comparing them visually as well as functionally.
