STATE MINT This "poetical" (poetic/politcal) look at New York City during the pandemic examines power, both personal and institutional. This love note to New York toggles between the trappings of wealth, the creeping evidence of inequality, and the authoritative apparatus of the state. A rhythmic montage of New Romantic images and news clips is accompanied by the lyric ardor of poetry. Humor and resolve rise from the flickering cityscape offering hope and finding beauty. A film by the poet Jeffrey Cyphers Wright. 2021. With sound/music by Joesph Nechvatal as well as Wright. Commissioned by Marc Vincenz for a Surrealist Extravaganza.
