Sounds of the 20th Century: Usmanbaş is an upcoming non-fiction film on music and sound. The film focuses on Turkey's foremost living composer İlhan Usmanbaş (1921), who is older than the Turkish Republic itself. In the 1950s, Usmanbaş became a part of a small but influential group of modernist composers, who continuously strove to create the 20th century music, while others were still admiring classical music of the past centuries. This three-part documentary will explore the music and pedagogy of Usmanbaş, as well as his extraordinary philosophy of life built around kindness and creativity.
