“Powell Lindsay wrote the script of Souls of Sin, which is about two characters: Dollar Bill, a young black man in Harlem, trying desperately to get to the top of the world through crime, and Alabam, a country bumpkin who plays the guitar and ends up becoming a big star. I played Alabam. From the acting point of view, it was a nice challenge. That film played throughout the black film circuit, which was something like 1200 theaters at the time. When I first saw the finished film, I almost crawled underneath my chair! Seeing myself acting on the screen was a shock.” William Greaves
