With Pylônes, I explore a line of high-voltage transmission towers connected by electrical cables. This infrastructure embodies a sonic continuity shaped by shared characteristics, notably their physical proximity and functional interdependence. Yet, each pylon generates a unique soundscape, where singular events emerge.
The idea took shape during the same trip to Gorafe, accompanied by my sound engineer. Together, we transformed these metallic giants into instruments of sound capture, attaching a geophone to their structure to record vibrations imperceptible to the human ear. These experiments revealed a rich palette of sounds, falling into several categories: low drones produced by distant road traffic, wind movements animating the cables and the structure, metal dilations reacting to temperature changes, and environmental impacts such as rustling vegetation and insect activity.
I intend to develop Pylônes in various forms. In addition to a series of experimental videos, the project will include photographs and a sound piece integrated into several sculptural modules.
