Weaving the threads of perception: a photographic exploration of the human body at the threshold of the unconscious

The work we present delves into the realm of the microscopic to explore the intersection between the conscious and the unconscious through the prism of the human body. The project features a series of digitizations of microscopic human tissues, revealing the complexity and hidden beauty of the human body on a molecular level. Each image captures the texture and intricate geometry of human tissues, inviting the viewer to reflect on the connection between body and soul, matter and spirit.

The originals were acquired in 2020 at an antique market in the city of Barcelona (Encants). After the purchase, we carried out a research process in which we digitize the material. We discovered that these microscopic samples of human tissue (eye lens, heart, brain, thyroid...) belong to a collection made by Dr. Soler Roig (1902 - 1999). The surgeon Josep Soler-Roig i Elizacin was a prestigious Catalan doctor. Among other positions, he has held the vice presidency of the International College of Surgeons and has operated on and established close friendships with great figures in the art world such as Picasso, J. M. Sert and Dalí, whom he operated on for a hernia. The surrealist painter gave him the drawing titled Saint Agatha Platonic, as he narrated in the extraordinary conference held at the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia in 1975: My artistic relationship in the profession.
