In 1970, whales were thrust into the spotlight when the first album of whale songs sold over 125,000 copies and went multi-platinum. On the brink of extinction, their songs inspired a global movement that saved them from slaughter and ignited scientific exploration into their mysterious acoustic world.

Listening to Whales (W.T.) is a feature-length documentary that tells the story of Chris Clark, lead marine mammal scientist for the Navy, and his mentor Katy Payne, who discovered whale song, as they try to understand and save the singing sovereigns of the ocean.

First-person accounts from trailblazing biologists, as well as a trove of archival footage, chronicle a scientific acknowledgment of nonhuman consciousness -- forcing us to contend with our moral obligation to the sovereigns of the ocean.
