Yuan has been a pioneer of video art in Taiwan, his work eloquently expresses the state of contemporary existence. In Landscape of Energy- Stillness, Yuan deliberately effaces every trace of tourists at the beach by shooting the same scene with hundreds of captures and postproduction process, letting the nuclear power plants and the footsteps and leisure objects on the beach speak for the horrifying fact. The work reveals a sense of uncanny and reflects how people’s endless pursuit towards technology is leading the dilemma between nature and human.
