After decades of work in Italy and Germany, Giuseppe retires and returns to his family home in Istria. Lonely, his mother urges him to marry and gives him his father’s Austro‑Hungarian army uniform. Giuseppe then sets off on a quest to find a wife in the “transitional East,” travelling through Hungary, Montenegro, and Vojvodina, facing emotional, social, and existential obstacles along the way.
