In the smallest, most mundane gestures, the diasporic eye searches for glimpses of home. Through mediated images of the 2019 uprising in her home country of Iraq, alongside reverberated observational echoes across the region, Ki-Bé -Giš is a portrait of filmmaker Sama Waham’s reconciliation of witnessing a homeland from afar. Through an interweaving of protest footage, fairytale storytelling, and multimedia installations, parallel narratives appear: one unfolding at home, the other in her country of residence.
