Based on a true story. Jack Parsons (1914-1952), a young, brilliant mind, living in early Los Angeles, is determined to make rockets a reality in a time when space travel was nothing more than a science fiction pipe dream. Using his wealth, expertise in explosives, and his rag-tag team of mad scientists, Parsons would begin the groundwork for early modern rocketry. By day, Parsons was an up-and-coming scientist working for the government, but by night, he would turn into a student of the occult in search of mystical answers. Using the Thelemic teachings of Aleister Crowly and his rocketry discoveries at the Jet Propulsion Laboratories, Parsons would combine magic and science in his quest for ultimate knowledge. This resulted in Parsons discovering rocket fuel, participating in sex rituals, starting a feud with Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, being investigated by the FBI, and dying in an “accidental” explosion, making Jack Parsons one of the strangest and most influential figures of the twentieth century.
