The documentary introduces us to the young artist LERA (27) from Minsk, her artistic career, the ups and downs she faced as an artist in Poland, and her unique approach to painting. She sustains herself through her craft, using classical oil paint to create intangible works. Throughout the documentary, I asked her numerous personal questions about her lifestyle, her artistic process, her techniques, the beginnings of her career, her integration journey, her arrival in Poland, and how she managed to be independent while coping with the uncertainties of being an immigrant artist in Poland. It's challenging to imagine how artists survive in a world without stability and financial security. And it is even more changeling to manage that without any family support and as a foreigner in another country. I first met Lera in 2009 at university in Minsk when she transferred to our class from another school. Our shared passion for art brought us together, driving our pursuit of artistic freedom. Having known Lera for over 10 years, I aimed to portray an intimate portrait of her. Hence, I chose the 4:3 format. As an artist myself, authenticity in depicting her life, fears, doubts, problems, and challenges was important to show authentically. The series of paintings switches between images of her everyday life and landscapes and illustrates the symbiosis between her real experiences and the world in her paintings. The choice of a botanical park as a setting merges with the motifs and compositions in Lera's artwork. We show Lera's sketches, her working environment, her home, and the detailed workflow of her painting.
