A Ukrainian filmmaker-refugee's exploration of Californian reality unfolds through a dialogue between the author and his wife about the palm tree, both as a biological species and a historical symbol. Through this conversation, he comes to see the palm's LA history as an immigrant, just like himself, and finds acceptance not in trying to grow new roots, but in the realization that one can learn to stand tall while being entirely out of place.
