Glacies is a site specific, interactive, narrative driven cinematic artwork situated on the fish quay at North Shields in the UK.

Glacies explores how communities have co-existed with the North Sea, specifically the human - nature relationship and contemplates how to nurture a proactive hydrocitizenship, in a world where humans are disconnected from nature.

Working with Professor Maggie Roe, local narratives are collected to uncover local traditions and discuss ideas around sustainable fishing, food and living. We will use creative methodologies to capture the voices. and how society works at individual and collective levels alongside the sea to uncover where more meaningful, ecologically sustainable forms of society exist.

The now defunct Ice factory will be the starting point for artistic research. Technology driven artistic artworks encourage the audiences to have an embodied experience reminding us of interconnectedness with water and how our codependency is at risk.

We will focus on our connection to landscape- with a hyper local focus to climate change, we believe a community inspired arts practice can open imaginations to possible futures for North Shields and the North Sea.
