"From Something to Nothing" is a cinematic portrait of a forest in Ehrenfeld (Upper Austria) that was cleared in 2021—one of the region's largest forest destruction projects. More than 3,000 photographic images of the unique bark patterns of the trees—later destroyed—form the raw material. Through frame-by-frame animation, abstract, flowing loops emerged that create a trance-like effect and allow the forest to "speak" visually.
It was essential to me to avoid conventional narrative and representational forms. Instead of a documentary-realistic approach, I chose an abstract visual language that does not aim for recognizability or the delivery of facts, but for perception, disruption, and emotional resonance. The goal was to create an experiential space from which new perspectives on the relationship between humans, the environment, and loss can emerge.
