Esther is a shy, introverted teenager who lives with her bad-tempered father in a small village surrounded by forests. She is adored and idolized by the local community of believers because of the wounds she bears on her body (the wounds of Christ) and the frequent appearances of the Virgin Mary who seems to communicate through her.
