An existential road trip for our time -- as humanity accelerates into the sixth mass extinction event on Planet Earth. Set near the border of Far West Texas and Northern Mexico, this is a journey into a cautionary, yet hopeful vision of the future for the human species.
BRIDGE OVER THE ABYSS
Inspired by specific ideas of Nietzsche and McLuhan, this futurist art film presents a philosophical road trip, imagining remote highways under starry skies as bridges over a bottomless abyss -- the abyss of failed futures guided by the same old failed ideologies. What can we hope for on a polluted planet getting ever hotter, with human consciousness largely dominated by screens, the hot gaze of social media, and the façade futurism of billionaires and Tech Bros towering over a planetary debris field?
VISIONS AND DREAMS OF A "COOL GAZE"
For an alternate and hopeful future for the human species, the film also presents a new vision of technology, aesthetics, and existence. It's a vision born in the dark skies and "cool gaze" of desert vistas, national parks, and astronomical observatories, with humanity united and connected via the sublime and magical experience of the vastness of our true cosmic existence. The film concludes with ten possible "dreams" for a sane, sustainable, meaningful, planetary civilization, all to counter the nightmares of the sixth extinction event.
This could be a film for a future civilization.
