In the second film of the medieval crime trilogy, young detective-pharmacist Melchior has to solve a seemingly supernatural mystery. A town guard that saw a ghost of a young lady, falls to his death from a watch tower. A prostitute who was with him, drowns in a well, and an artist that was in love with this prostitute, also dies. A distorted corpse that is found in the river next to a monastery, gives Melchior the lead which guides him to the traces of a long-forgotten tragedy.
