The work begins as a poem conceived by Michael Love Michael during a poetry workshop and evolves into a protest‑song music video. It addresses issues of identity, power, marginalization and American national symbols. As a queer, Black, trans‑feminine artist, Michael uses the imagery of the American flag bikini to reclaim and interrogate notions of belonging and visibility in the U.S. context.
